Authorities are searching the area to make sure no people are trapped under the debris. They say primary searches were negative for victims, but search and rescue teams want to look through a wider area.

The break has prompted several road closures in the area.
Passaic Avenue is closed between Laurel and Midland avenues, and Kearny Avenue is closed between Columbia and Locust avenues.
New Jersey Transit said the bridge used to be part of the Harrison-Kingsland Branch, which is no longer in operation. The break has an impact on New Jersey Transit service.
